Over the last week, I've been brewing a significant feature of a space station building simulator: the building system.

The module selection menu

I have chosen a menu instead of the traditional "select from a few tiles" approach. Why? Because there will be a lot of modules in the base game already, and I do plan on adding official modding support shortly after release. When I tried the tiled approach, I could only fit roughly 8 or so tiles on the screen, which is a very limited amount. This menu also incorporates selection of valid attachments, and makes implementation much easier.

Docking a Soyuz to a Salyut 1

When you select a module while having a module already on the station, you will be able to dock with the selected docking port, which snaps onto available docking ports facing in the opposite direction.

It was a long journey to implement this, but it payed off. Next, I'll be implementing the save game system, to make sure your stations can persist for as long as your hard disk can handle.
